Stinkfarmer

OLD NEWS Back to current news

4/1/2006 -

Record release news!!! OK, so I've been tying up lots of loose ends and I finally have enough for a full Sinkcharmer record (if not more). I haven't settled on a release date with Asaurus yet but I'm hoping somewhere in the May/June timeframe. I'm currently working on the packaging for it, and like a lot of Asaurus releases it's going to be beautiful and way too elaborate. So here's the title I've settled on: Vegetable Farmer. It rhymes...y'see. Plus I AM a vegetable farmer now.

As for the future of the band as an entity...We've been scattered and all have our busy causes these days. Jef's got a pilot of one of his comix in the works with Nickelodeon (with Dustin Hoffman doing voicing work!!!). Jen moved to Amherst and is studying to be a nurse. And I've taken up farming in upstate NY (along with the better paying day job). Come visit me (and buy veggies) at the Ballston Spa Farmers market this summer. I'm serious. I guess what I'm saying is that it's unlikely that the old Sinkcharmer will grace a stage anytime soon. In the meantime continue to check out my current band (Albumen) and buy our CD too.

All the best --> Paul

8/3/2005 -

Well...for all intensive purposes, Sinkcharmer is dead. I (Paul) have been focusing on my new band Albumen. We're focusing on recording a record right now, so any lingering Sinkcharmer material that needs to be released will likely have to wait. That said, if you like Sinkcharmer...Albumen is not that different. It's likely that this site will be static for a long time to come...but I will post when there's something to release.

In the meantime, check out Asaurus Records. Whenever the Sinkcharmer record does get released, it will be through them.

Adieu.

4/21/2005 -

So...I wasn't kidding when I said that the song of the week might stall. Dark, Dark Country still resides there in all of it's unfinished "glory". I will jump back on it soon. That said, I'm starting a new project out here in the wilds of NY with a feller named Andy. We're calling it Albumen. What can I say? I like old photos and eggs. I have a sneaking suspicion that Albumen will subsume Sinkcharmer, and as such some of the songs of the week may just become Albumen songs. We'll see.

On another note, Sinkcharmer the band had a number of songs we played live that some asked us to put on record. The plan is to record sometime in June or July for an August release on Asaurus. We will keep you posted.

Holy Crap! It's finally underway. We're (the royal we're) working on a new record tenatively entitled Lake Desolation and you get to hear the work in progress. For the period between now and when it's done (aiming for Spring), you'll get a new song once a week unspecified period. I will notify folks through the newly minted Sinkcharmer Announcement List as well as post a quick update on this front page. For those of you who haven't seen it yet the link is over here ------>

10/4/2004 -

Long time no see! So anyhow, there's much news to relay. This summer was full of non-Sinkcharmer things for all of us. Jen and Paul worked furiously through the month of August on completing our other band's (The Operators) second record, the Light and the Dark. We're really proud of it.

Jef 's comic for Nickelodeon Magazine, Grampa and Julie: Shark Hunters was collected and turned into a book. Even though I got my FOJ (Friend of Jef) free copy, I still bought 3 more copies to give to my nephews, my sister (1st Grade teacher), and my wife's good friend. It's good stuff. Uh...to end the plug...you can buy it here.

Last, but not least, the Sinkcharmer news...I (Paul) have moved to the middle of nowhere in New York. This SHOULD mean much more time for recording/songwriting for me. It will also probably mean even fewer shows than before...then again, if someone asks us to play, I always try and find a way. We're going to try my hardest to have a record by early next year for the Asaurus folks. I guess that's all.
4/30/2004-

A tree is born...Today's arbor day and we have a new song available on an Asaurus Arbor Day comp. All proceeds go to the National Arbor Day Foundation...

4/28/2004-

**SHOW ALERT #2** We'll be playing Saturday, May 15th for the Handstand Command 4th Anniversary at PA's Lounge. Many of the other bands that we are in (including the Operators, the Anchormen, and the Big Digits backing band) will also be playing. Our set will be on the short side, but what's new about that. We're gonna bring the rock.

4/5/2004-

**SHOW ALERT** We'll be playing Friday, April 23th with fellow Asaurus labelmates Pants Yell! at the Midway Cafe. We plan on playing to our quieter side at this show, so get out your hankies. We collect hankies. Uh...Never mind. The other piece of news in that last statement is that Asaurus has more or less agreed to releasing our record when we're ready (target date Aug/Sept).
2/4/2004-

Couple of things to report. First...we're proud to appear on the Asaurus Records EP Club for their 3rd edition. To buy it, head on over to their site and click on EP Club. If you buy the EP Club (only $15), you'll get the CD-R we're on as well 5 other CDs throughout the year. Check out their other releases as well. The songs we contributed will likely only be available through the club.

In other news, we're slowly but surely recording material for a new record. It's likely that the Operators new record will be finished long before Sinkcharmer's, but I'll try and put up some teasers in the not too distant future.

Finally, we're now working with a new hosting company. We have our fingers crossed, but we hope that it goes well here so that you can actually get to the site.

12/3/2003-

Happy Holidays!!! We now have a date for the Sinkcharmer appearance on the Asaurus Records EP Club. As of now we're slated for the February release. It'll be four spanking new songs that probably won't be available anywhere else. Head on over to their site and pick up some Christmas bargains. If you buy the EP Club (only $15), you'll get the CD we're on as well as a bunch of other Club EPs. It's a damn fine deal.
10/15/2003-

Three items of interest....
  • SHOW ALERT! We'll be playing a short set at Johnny D's along with the Operators for a benefit for Somerville Community Access TV . Should be a great time! Hope to see you there.
  • SHOW ALERT take deux! We will be playing Jill Comer's art opening at Lux in Somerville on 10/26. We are honored that Jill asked us and will do our best to honor the spirit of her work. More info here .
  • Sinkcharmer will be appearing as a part of the Asaurus Records EP Club. Asaurus is a CD-R label from Michigan, that's putting out some damn fine pop music. We're honored to be asked to contribute.

10/2/2003-

Last Minute Show!!! Sinkcharmer will be playing on Saturday night at the Midway Cafe in JP, MA with the likes of Spoilsport and fellow Handstand Commandos Asian Babe Alert. It's Spoilsport's record release party (and a damn fine record it is), so I expect to see you all there ready to shell out for the Sports.

6/25/2003-

Sinkcharmer will be playing an early show (7pm) at the Zeitgeist Gallery on July 18th with Elephant Micah and Static Films . We hope to have a whole bunch of new material to play for you.

6/19/2003-

Very very last minute show at the Choppin' Block tonight with Asian Babe Alert, the In Out and the Pee Wee Fist. We're on right at 9:30. Ain't no one gonna see this in time says I. See you there?

3/6/2003-

So & So has kindly asked us to join them for a show on April 28th at the Kendall Cafe . More details on the shows page. In other news, we're writing new songs and hope to start recording a new record within a month or two. We're on glacial time...but we'll get there.

2/13/2003-

Not much to report these days other than...we may have a show coming up in April and there's a new (and somewhat confusing) review from PopMatters posted on the reviews page .
11/25/2002-

Well, we're back from MicroTour 2002. We had a lot of fun playing for folks in Eashampton, Brooklyn, and DC! I should have some pictures to post soon...In the meantime, I have a few more things to report:

  • Insound is now stocking Unstoppable releases. Click here to buy our records from them.
  • I have added a brand spanking new Press Page with reviews, hi-res pictures, etc.
  • Lastly, we plan to start recording our next album in February. Many of the songs we've been playing live that weren't on Stars in Winter are slated to appear.

11/10/2002-

The tour! So as luck/good fortune would have it, we managed to get a NY show to go in between our Massachusetts and DC shows. If you know anyone in NYC that might like to see us play, they're in for an early Sunday night. We start at 7pm. Check out the shows page for more details. Also...more reviews for your amusement. Lost at Sea and Stylus Magazine (Winnepeg)

10/17/2002-

The crisp fall days are upon us and Stars in Winter is officially out. With that, the reviews are starting to come in. We'll have a page posted soon with copies of these reviews, but in the meantime, check out Splendid E-Zine's Review ! In the just to inform you department...our distribution is through Parasol (where they still have copies of the first Sinkcharmer album) and Carrot Top . We also hope to have it available through Insound in the coming weeks.

8/22/2002-

Howdy! There's a couple of things to report to y'all. First up, thanks to the Fleece for having us on the cape. The show was a lot of fun! Also, apologies to Rob Kelley from the Fleece. As it turns out, Rob took the picture in the booklet of the Stars in Winter CD. I was a big dork and didn't give him a photo credit. Doh!!

Second big thing to report, we're going to be taping a live show for Cafe Scat on Somerville Public Access next Wednesday. It will be airing Friday's in September at 8pm. If it comes out well, I may try and make a VCD for the masses.

Third and final thing to report...We're currently planning a one week tour for mid-November that will take us down the eastern seaboard and back. We're open to suggestions and opening slots! Let us know if you have any ideas.

7/29/2002-

Last minute show alert! Sinkcharmer will be playing with the Fleece and the Medea Connection on Cape Cod this coming Friday, August 2nd! C'mon...you know you've been meaning to go to the Cape. Now you have a reason.

7/15/2002-

Quick reminder...Were playing ArtBeat Saturday the 20th, and Hi-Fi Records on Saturday the 20th. My sister might show up, and if you all beg, she might sing Goosemayer!

7/06/2002-

An amusing thread that mentions my cover of Genesis' Dusk. My friend Joe posted it as a song on his monthly online comp . Seems that the typical hardcore Genesis fan doesn't care for my take on it. No matter...I still think it rocks (that's one of the problems).

What's a punk who likes 70's art rock to do? I guess I should just listen to the Styrenes.

6/18/2002-

All quiet. We're playing an in-store at Hi-Fi Records in JP at the end of July. In the meantime, Ken and I have started to build our studio . Once it's done, you can expect some new record making activity. In the meantime, you can buy our new record, Stars in Winter . Due to the fates of college schedules, etc...it's not "officially" out until October. Don't worry...I'll gladly sell you one now.

5/24/2002-

We had a great show at the Abbey! Thanks to everyone who came out! On another note, don't forget that Week 5 of the Handstand Command Anniversary is on the 31st of May. Jen and Paul's "big time" project, the Operators are playing as well as a bunch of other amazing bands. It should be quite a show!

5/9/2002-

It's here! What's it? Stars in Winter , of course. We'll be celebrating with a show next Wednesday, May 15th at the Abbey Lounge in Somerville, MA. The CD will be on sale there (probably a few bucks cheaper than the website price). If you can't make it to the Abbey, you're always welcome to buy it via the website.
4/3/2002-

Well it's going to happen one way or another. Unstoppable Records will be releasing Stars in Winter in the near future. However, due to time/money constraints it won't be going out to radio or press or distro until the late summer. We hope to have it in our grubby hands by May though, which means that you can get it directly from us. We'll try and cook up something special for all of you early adopters. In the meantime, you can read more about the record here . I expect that the Handstand Command Showcase show will be our CD Release. You will be informed.

3/26/2002-

Just a bunch of shows coming up. Including an acoustic thing in the land of my alma mater...Binghamton! Stop by and say hello.

1/22/2002-

Hi...Not much new around here, except that I'm building a proper studio with my friend Ken. There are architectural drawings to be made as well as much material to be bought. Maybe once it's built, we'll get off our butts and record some new songs. Then again, many of you haven't heard the old ones...

1/2/2002-

Happy New Year! A new year...a new last minute show to add. This one's a good one. We'll be playing this upcoming Sunday, January 6th at the Washington Street Art Center with the likes of The Red Telephone and Ad Frank . Hope to see you there.

12/18/2001-

Happy Holidays! As a quick update, the song Stars in Winter appears on the BumbleBear/Planting Seeds Records Christmas Underground compilation. You can get it for $4 from Planting Seeds .

Also, keep your fingers crossed for a Spring release of Stars in Winter (bad timing..no?).

10/14/2001-

Hi everyone... Stars in Winter is now complete. We're very happy with the results and hope that we can share it with everyone soon (ie find someone to release it). For the moment, there are two songs available from the record on this page. We hope you like them. Let us know if you do.

9/7/2001-

Quick update. I've added a Psquelch page for all you history buffs.

9/4/2001-

I can finally say it. Stars in Winter is done. Well...almost. I have a mastering date set for the middle of this month, after which I can say without worry that the record is complete! I'm leaving the featured songs up for now, even though Hole So Deep is now an official outtake. Rubber Legs made the final cut. Now the difficult task of finding someone to release it begins. I'm also out of the business of making CD-R's of the old records, though I'd probably burn one for ya if you ask nice. One of these days I'll take it off of the shopping page. Then it'll be official. Until next time!

6/16/2001-

Well, just a few more mixes and one more vocal track (from my mom!) and the Stars in Winter record will be ready for next steps. Please check out the 2 featured songs. These are links from the IUMA site, so if you have any trouble, go there .

I've also decided that once this record is out, I will no longer be making copies of the previous records...so get yours now while you can.

5/9/2001-

We're back from our "tour". Thanks to all the nice folks that came out to see us (you know who you are). We'll have fresh pics and maybe a couple of sound clips up in the next couple of weeks. Also, if I get around to it, there'll be a tour diary up as well!

4/16/2001-

Here's a small preview of the upcoming record. It'll be remixed, but here it is for now...Rubber Legs...in streaming Real Audio or as an MP3 download .

3/29/2001-

T-Shirts are available! It's based on the bug design that is on the band page . Shirts are available in S,M,L, and XL sizes and in many different colors. Buy them here .

3/14/2001-

Since last update, we've added a couple of shows and hope to add one or two more before too long.

We've also have been plugging away at the record and hope to have it together sometime over the summer. Since it's titled Stars in Winter, I'm shooting for a fall release... I may put up a snippet of something soon. It's more hi-fi than previous efforts. Don't worry though, most of the songs don't top 3 minutes.

2/20/2001-

Welcome to the new Sinkcharmer site....Now that Sinkcharmer's playing live, I needed to re-work the categories a bit. Drop me a line and let me know what you think!

On another front, the new record (Stars in Winter) is coming along nicely. It's a bit of a departure from my 4-track stuff, but the songs are still there. I'm gonna be a bit more stingy about pre-releasing some of the stuff from this record, though some of the songs do exist in a rougher form on mp3.com .

Back to current news
